How play on PC?

The first part of Silent Hill was released in the year of 1999 and was immediately, by its numerous fans which are count many milloins, called the best survival horror of all times. If you want to see if there is any truth to it, I have good and bad news for you. The good one is that at the moment the game costs barely 59 zloties in Poland(and probably even less in countries like USA or UK), here comes the bad one:the game has been released on Sony Playstation ONLY. So if you want to run it on PC, it turns out that it is easier than it would have seemed. You just have to aquire an Emulator. What is it, I hear you ask. Emulator is a program, as the title itself suggest, of which main purpose is to emulate, that is mimic, imitate, another machine on our good old PC. In this case the machine is Playstation. There are really a great number of Playstation emulators, however in my humble opinion the only ones worth mentioning are these three:ePsxe(because of its elaborate and tiresome configuration this one shall not be mentioned again), VGS(this one shall as well be skipped for its better version's sake), the one which should be our main target however is called "Emurayden". This emulator is considered by me and many others the best of all mentioned in this article, but if for its compatibility with a great deal of games releas on Playstation. Of course one can point out a few drawbacks like the fact it doesn't support any functions like Open GL and the likes of these and that the graphics are a little worse than on Playstation, however, all its cons are counterweighted by the flawless sound and its easy configuration. For example, to create or set a memory card you must only choose the Create function in Preferences and pick the location of the new card, or pick the Choose option and choose the card's location on your hard disk. Configuring controllers is as easy as choosing the Setup Controller option and setting the keys... and that is all, you can play already, painless and quick. Emurayden comes with a series of useful tools for browsing the content of memory card and it has the graphic mode of 800x600 pixels available too for those easily irritated by pixelated graphics.(WARNING, the emulator may have some problems with running on Windows XP but there should be a patch available already and there are no problems with the version 2.2). Look in the Download section for a link to the newest version of this exquisite piece of software.

However, a good and compatible emulator is not all, as you know Playstation has ,instead of your run-off-a-mill keyboard, a PAD to which device all the games were accustomated. This time it isn't any different. Silent Hill is a game made exclusively with GamePad in mind and playing on keyboard is an utter nightmare(I know it from my own experience). So what to do in such a case? Just buy a GamePad(if you have the money that is), but not just any GamePad, I for instance use an MT-160 pad from MediaTech. It is a very good and inexpensive device(somewhere around 60-70 zloties in Poland), which has a great number, 10 to be precise, programmable buttons and supports vibration(although this time it is obsolete because the emulator does not pass vibrations ,which is very unfortunate). It also has two analogue manipulators(cool, top-notch stuff). However, it is not the only GamePad available, there are a variety of others and the choice is yours.

Silent Hill PC

Lately, however, an unofficial PC conversion has been released, thanks to which we can now without any problems play SH on our computers as well. We owe this conversion to the SilentScape Studios group which has additionally released the version on its site. Moreover, the group does not rest on lauras, far from it, it is currently preparing new Patches to please and satisfy all the PC players around the world. As to technical matters, Sillent Hill PC works on ePSXe emulator so we needn't worry about the visual quality. In addition to this we have the option of changing the resolution and enabling some filters. At the moment we have the access to the full version of SH, which takes 400mb, and the 1.21 Patch which fixes some bugs and adds new options. In order to download SH you need a program called BitTorrent which you will find in the Download section.
